There was a great quote that I read and it goes like this "Jewellery is like the perfect spice - it always compliments what's already there!" Never has a quote been so true.
The history of jewellery is fascinating. Dating back to prehistoric times. It's always been the universal form of adornment.
Men and women have always worn some kind of jewellery to either mark as some form of protection and later on as a mark of status or rank. It has been made from so many different types of materials like, shell, stones and bones in its prehistoric life to the materials we see today.
Of course as time went on and technology advanced, more materials were uncovered, like gold, silver and platinum. That married with the variety of different precious stones have created the most beautiful and unique pieces ever to be introduced into the modern world.
The process of wearing jewellery still remains the same, as form of expression and in some cases art. Actually isn't Jewellery art itself!
I find the history of jewellery fascinating and plan to glean as much knowledge as I can over the next couple of months/years, so that I can share my knowledge with you all.
Hopefully you too will see the passion that is tapped into when creating the jewellery that we wear today and what I make for my customers.
So watch this space for my jewellery tidbits!
There was an interesting article in the FT (Financial Times) last year on art and jewellery.
