It's coming up to one of the most romantic days of the year. The origins of Valentines Day, dates back to its pre- christian days. It was a pagan fertility ritual! And this certainly does define the basis for this celebration of love on this day.

Through the decades there have been major events linked to Valentines day. Such as, in 1847, one of the first valentines day card was created and in the 1900's, the romanticism of valentines day truly took off, making it the most specific event of the calendar year.

Of course not all events were related to love. There were 5 Chicago gangsters, who were lined up and murdered with machine guns, apparently at the behest of Al Capone. To which was referred to as the St Valentines Day Massacre.

In 2009 Valentines day generated an estimated $14.7 million dollars in retail sales in the USA.

So it kind of does make sense for this time to be the most prominent time of year for new jewellery designs to come out.
